The Psalms of Ascent are our final psalms for this study. These Psalms are grouped together and reflect on the grace, mercy, provision and salvation of God. In Jewish tradition there are three major festivals - Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. In the Bible days, families would travel to the Temple in Jerusalem to celebrate these festivals. As the families would make the pilgrimage and ascend the mountain that led to the city and temple, it was customary for these songs (psalms) to be sung. They later received the name Psalms of Ascent because of the way in which they were often shared with one another - being sung as they ascended up the mountain where God dwelt. Read More

From this week’s message, Pastor Cam described the wisdom Psalms as “where we not only express our questions and frustration...but are led to the solution.” Going on to challenge us to make worship our custom - following Jesus’ example. Through our weekly and daily practice of worship, the Holy Spirit interprets the Scriptures for us to understand God’s answers to our questions, frustration, worries and joys. Read More

Welcome to Week 3 of Study of Psalms! This reading plan is designed to partner with Compassion Christian Church’s sermon series of the same name, which you can find information about right here.
This week as we read a few of the imprecatory psalms it is important to remember what Marcus mentioned in this week’s message - “God’s anger is not like our anger…because God’s love is not like our love. Both are perfect.” Through God’s love and fury, grace and justice will coexist, because His plans are always Holier than ours. Come to Him with your anger and frustration, yet leave with His peace to comfort you. Read More

We are continuing to reflect on the Psalms through Lectio Divina this week.
Lectio Divina is translated to “divine or sacred reading.” It is a spiritual practice that was refined by the early Church leaders of the Christian faith. Its roots can be found in Scripture itself as in Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active”. The Holy Spirit is actively working in the hearts of those reading the scriptures every time they open their Bible. One just needs to come to the Word with a heart open and available to hear from God.
