Thy Kingdom Come - Day 10
by Compassion Creative on November 22nd, 2024
Highlight If you knew you were about to be betrayed, arrested and killed, how would you spend the time leading up to that arrest? Jesus spent His night in prayer. He prays for the Father to be glorified through what is about to happen, and then He spends the majority of the time praying for His disciples and for all who will believe - you and me. God’s Kingdom was about to win the war, and Jesus prayed for His followers to have the kingdom strength to win battles they would face. Not by their own works, but by the Holy Spirit. God’s kingdom is now through the Spirit, and not yet because there is a heavenly kingdom awaiting us with the Father and Son.  Read More

Highlight Luke 17 is another example of ancient Jewish apocalyptic literature. Jesus was providing hope by challenging the thinking of His audience. They believed God’s kingdom would be in a physical form like the earthly kingdoms that ruled over them. But Jesus corrects that view, God’s Kingdom is not one of physical rule. It is a kingdom of love. It is a kingdom of the Holy Spirit working in His children now - in His fullness - and not yet.  Read More

Highlight Today we will continue on the ancient Jewish style of apocalyptic format that the book of Revelation is written in. To review, the definition of the ancient apocalyptic style is “literature that uses symbolic imagery to communicate hope to those in the midst of persecution.” Reading the book of Revelation can be difficult sometimes because there is a lot of imagery that often seems very odd to our scientific concrete thinking.  Read More

Highlight John’s original audience were the seven churches in Asia and all believers everywhere. Scholars believe that the churches were likely under pressure and persecution from the Emperor Domitian. Highlight The Old Testament uses the phrase “fear of the Lord” often. The meaning of fear is not one of fright, but more of love, reverence, or obedience. Then Jesus says in John’s gospel “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.  Read More

Now we have Paul who is in prison in Rome speaking to the church in Philippi about his experience with persecution. Thy Kingdom Come - Day 02
by Compassion Creative on November 12th, 2024
Highlight God’s Kingdom is a kingdom of family. This can be a hard realization, because we all have different experiences with family. Some of us grew up with a great family, others grew up in a difficult family situation, and others are in the midst of examining if the family they grew up in was healthy or not. So to be told God’s kingdom is one of family, might be difficult to understand.  Read More

Highlight Scholars believe Paul wrote this letter to the church in Rome around 57 AD. This would have been before the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem and before any of the emperors began to widely persecute Christians. Jesus told the disciples persecution was coming (John 15:20, Matthew 24:9-10).  Read More

Welcome to Week 1 of the Thy Kingdom Come Reading Plan! This reading plan is designed to partner with Compassion Christian Church’s sermon series of the same name, which you can find information about right here (make this a link). When teaching His disciples how to pray, Jesus says: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9-10 Jesus is the kingdom come. He embodied humanity on earth while still being God. He walked and taught his disciples what life in God’s kingdom looks like. He is a perfect example of how each follower should live - expanding God's kingdom on earth as in heaven.  Read More
