Reading For Sunday | Luke 5:17-25

When Faith Moves Us To Act

You may be wondering: what exactly is a Faith Promise? Every fall, our church celebrates all the Lord has done outside the walls of our congregation—within our communities and around the world—through our Local and Global Outreach Partners. Together, we make a collective commitment, above our tithe, to support these efforts, trusting in faith that God will provide what we promise to give throughout the year so that this Kingdom work can continue to grow.

This week, all of our campuses had the opportunity to hear directly from one of our international missionaries about what God is doing through their ministry because of Compassion’s commitment to this work. In light of the incredible stories we heard, our Global Outreach Pastor, John-Mark Romans, challenged us to consider the question, “Is it worth it?” as we reflect on the story of the four friends in Luke 5:17–25. These friends demonstrated extraordinary faith and determination to bring their paralyzed friend to Jesus despite many obstacles. Throughout this week, we are invited to reflect on the commitment and sacrifice required to reach the lost—emphasizing that hope alone is not enough; action is required.

As we delve into this passage from Luke, we see the power of faith in action. The four friends saw a need, made a decision, and overcame obstacles to bring their friend to Jesus. Their story is a powerful reminder that the lost cannot reach Jesus on their own. This week, we will explore what it means to be proactive in our faith—taking steps to bring others to Christ, even when it is difficult, time-consuming, or costly.

Reflect on how you can embody this call to action in your own life. Consider the sacrifices you might need to make to prioritize reaching the lost. Whether through financial support, prayer, or personal involvement in missions, each step is a testament to living out the love of Christ.
