READING: 1 PETER 3:15-16

“To give an answer.” Apologetics at its core. Why do you believe what you believe? Peter, one of Jesus’ closest disciples, encourages his audience to always be prepared to give an answer and to do it with gentleness and respect (v. 15). Your faith is not private; it should not be a hidden fact about you, but also, it does not have to be loud or obnoxious.

Simply put - the way you speak and behave should align with Jesus’ teaching. It should be obvious to others that you live differently from the world around you. Then, when they notice and ask questions, your answer is to be one of sound reason, solid knowledge of why you believe, and compassion towards the person asking.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

Spend time praying - “Lord, reveal to me ‘the lies that I like’ and how your truth unravels those lies.”

  • What is the truth you have uncovered in Scriptures that causes you to believe in God, the Bible, Jesus, etc.?
  • Do you have a solid answer on what you believe? Are you able to share that truth with someone if they were to ask?
  • Who is someone you look up to in the faith for the way they live? Ask them why they believe what they believe. Ask them to help you solidify your answer to the hope you have in Jesus.
  • Is there a lie that I am comfortable believing in, because it is easier?
