WELL, DO YOU WANT THE GOOD LIFE?

THURSDAY, APRIL 10

READING: MATTHEW 5-7

What is ‘the good life’? Today, as we step back out and look at the entire Sermon on the Mount we are going to revisit something we discussed at the start of this journey together. Is the good life Jesus offers really good? Now that you’ve spent time digging into Jesus’ teachings, what have you discovered about His upside-down Kingdom?

After you’ve read the Scripture, take some time to answer the questions below. You may feel like you’ve done this before and that’s because you have. These are the same questions you answered in week one of this sermon series. But now you’ve done the hard work to study, ponder and practice the words of Jesus. Take time once you’ve completed these questions to compare your answers this week from the answers you journaled in week one. Pray through anything you notice. Thank God for the growth you’ve experienced, for the truths He revealed, for His presence with you in this journey, and ask for His continued help in the areas that need more of His transforming power.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

  • What characterizes the “good life” to you?
  • How does the world define the good life? And how does that differ from the Kingdom of God?
  • If living a Kingdom of God life is grounded in the teachings of Jesus, the life He lived, and the spiritual disciplines he practiced, what adjustments am I invited to make?
  • If a Kingdom life is developed and nurtured through a see-and-do method, what do I need to look for more of and mimic from Jesus?
  • Is my life being nourished by the values of the Kingdom of God, a life filled with love for God and others, or by another kingdom?
