THE ROOT OF ANXIETY

MONDAY, MARCH 10

READING: MATTHEW 6:25-34

REAL TALK

"Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

Alright, did Jesus really just call me out like that? He’s hitting us with some real talk here. Worry doesn’t actually do anything—it doesn’t solve the problem, change the outcome, or magically give us more time. It just drains us. But let’s be real—just knowing that doesn’t make it any easier to stop doomscrolling at 2 AM, does it?
Anxiety and fear sneak up on us in ways we don’t always recognize—tight shoulders, racing thoughts, restless nights, or that constant feeling of being on edge. Before we dive into what Jesus is saying in these verses, let’s pause and take a look inward. How does worry show up in your life? Where are you placing your security? And what would it look like to shift that trust toward God instead? Take a breath, be honest, and see what surfaces.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

  1. How does my body react when I feel anxious? What physical or emotional signs do I notice?
  2. What are some areas in my life where I feel like I have to be in control?
  3. When have I let worry control my decisions or keep me from fully enjoying the present?
  4. What do I place my security in? (Job, money, relationships, reputation, etc.) How would I feel if that was taken away?
  5. When have I felt most secure in my life? What contributed to that sense of peace?
