LIVING IN TWO WORLDS

THURSDAY, MARCH 6
READING: MATTHEW 6:19-21
NAVIGATING THE TENSION
In the earlier verses of Matthew 6, Jesus urges us to examine what we truly treasure, reminding us that where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also (Matthew 6:19-21). These verses highlight the importance of aligning our hearts with the eternal purposes of God, rather than being consumed by the temporary rewards of this world.
Then, in Matthew 6:24, Jesus expands on this idea, telling us that we cannot serve two masters. We can't be fully devoted to both the pursuit of God's kingdom and the demands of worldly success. The tension is real—on one hand, God's kingdom calls us to love, serve, and live with an eternal perspective. On the other hand, our culture often pulls us toward the pursuit of wealth, status, and personal achievement. This internal conflict can leave us feeling divided and distracted, constantly torn between competing priorities.
As we reflect on these verses, let’s invite God into the areas of struggle in our hearts. Take a moment to flip back through your journal from earlier in the week, where you’ve already started thinking about what you truly treasure. Looking at those thoughts can help you see where your heart is really aligned—whether it’s with the temporary things of this world or with the lasting values of God’s kingdom. We all feel that tension between the two worlds, but with God’s help, we can find wisdom and faithfulness to live out the values of His kingdom. True peace and purpose come when we focus on what really matters—fully embracing God’s calling and making His kingdom our true treasure.

PRAY
- Lord, help me see where I’m divided. Show me the areas where I’m trying to balance serving You and chasing after what the world offers. Where have I gotten off track, and how can I realign my heart with You?
- Lord, give me clarity. Help me to tell the difference between what the world promises and what You offer. Remind me that true fulfillment isn’t in chasing success or wealth, but in living for Your kingdom and purpose.
- Lord, teach me to trust You more. When I get anxious about not having enough or feel pulled toward material things, remind me that You provide everything I need.
- Jesus, help me find peace in You. When everything around me is competing for my attention, help me stay grounded in Your kingdom and Your purposes.
