INTANGIBLE TREASURES

While tangible treasures often grab our attention, the intangible things in life—our emotions, relationships, status, and even our sense of security—are just as powerful in shaping where our hearts are. We can treasure feelings of validation, approval, or success, seeking them in the words of others or in our own accomplishments. We might treasure relationships, whether family, friends, or romantic connections, often looking for fulfillment or identity through them. But just like material possessions, these intangible treasures can fade, shift, or disappoint. When our hearts cling to these things for ultimate satisfaction, we can find ourselves empty or chasing after something that can never fully fill us. So, let’s consider where we place our trust and worth—are we relying on the love and approval of others, the status we’ve earned, or the comfort of control and certainty? These intangible treasures are harder to identify but just as revealing when we look closely at what drives us.

WHAT DO YOU TREASURE?

Take a few moments to pray, honestly reflect, and journal on the following questions.
  • What feelings do you find yourself chasing (or fear losing) most often—validation, security, approval—and why do they matter so much to you?
  • When you feel insecure, what do you reach for to calm your anxiety? Is it external validation or something deeper?
  • How do you react when your accomplishments or successes are overlooked or unrecognized by others?
  • What role does control or the need for certainty play in your life? How do you handle situations that feel out of your control?
