GETTING READY FOR THE WEEK

SUNDAY, MARCH 2

READING: MATTHEW 6:19-24

It’s easy to say “yes” to Jesus when we’re in church or caught up in the moment, but when it comes down to our everyday lives, it’s a bit more complicated, right? We all have things we treasure that we sometimes knowingly or unknowingly rely on in place of our relationship with Jesus—whether it's the stuff we own, the relationships we hold dear, the career we’ve worked so hard for, or even the way we think and feel about ourselves. But sometimes, we need to ask ourselves: are these things enough? Are they filling us in the deep, lasting way that Jesus offers? It's a tough gut check. We might find that we’re chasing things that, in the grand scheme, won’t satisfy us the way a relationship with Jesus can. And Jesus isn’t telling us to pretend those treasures don’t matter—but He is challenging us to recognize where our hearts really lie and whether we truly trust that the life He has for us is the most fulfilling one we could choose.

This week, we’re diving into Matthew 6:19-24, and we’re going to be real with you—it’s a challenge. Jesus doesn’t hold back in this part of the Sermon on the Mount. He’s laying it out, no sugar-coating, asking us to look closely at where we’re placing our treasure and what really controls our hearts. It's easy to glance over these verses or try to explain them away, but that’s not the way to approach this. Jesus is challenging us to take a hard look at our priorities and be honest about what we value. So, buckle up. Let’s face this head-on, wrestle with it, and not shy away from the tough stuff. It’s going to push us, but let’s meet the challenge with open hearts and willingness to let Jesus reshape how we see what really matters.
