Outreach Partners
Good News Jail & Prison Ministry (Rwanda) and Buena Vista Sports Academy (Guatemala/Honduras/Senegal)
Highlight
Online this week we’ll get to hear from Pius Nyakayiro from the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry. In 1994 Rwanda suffered a horrific genocide that killed more than 800,000 people. Pius himself was a survivor who lost many of his family and loved ones as a result of this unimaginable travesty. Through a miraculous work of forgiveness in his own heart and in his country as a whole, Pius has been part of the incredible story of redemption that God is writing in Rwanda through the work of his people. Thirty years later, many perpetrators of the genocide are preparing to be released to return to the villages and towns where they committed their crimes. Pius and his team of prison chaplains are working to prepare both prisoners, many of whom have given their lives to Christ while serving the sentences for their crimes, and the communities that will receive them to find reconciliation only possible through Jesus.
At our Downtown Campus we heard from Brock and Kerrie Johnson from Buena Vista Sports Academy. Founded in 2010, BVSA is an evangelism & discipleship ministry that uses the game of soccer to get into hard to difficult places around the world. They are discipling boys and young men through daily Bible teaching, planting or partnering with local churches, and seeing individuals, families, and communities come to a saving faith in Christ. With academies in Guatemala, Honduras and Senegal, Brock and Kerrie and their team are seeking to break generational cycles of physical and spiritual poverty. Our church has made a strategic investment in their Quiche project which, in addition to a soccer academy, includes a training center for church planters with the goal of sending missionaries from Central America among the unreached.

Reflection & Prayer
- Pray for Pius and Angelique Nyakayiro and their four children. Pray that they would have courage and endurance as they lead reconciliation ministries among prisoners returning to Rwandan communities.
- Pray for the people of Rwanda as they continue to heal from the immeasurable impact of genocide. Pray that God would use the story of what he has done among the Rwandan people to bring hope and healing to other nations that have suffered similarly.
- Pray for Brock and Kerrie Johnson and their three children. Pray that they would have wisdom and provision as they develop the Quiche Project and that God’s favor would rest on their ministry and multiply it to the ends of the earth.
- Pray for the graduates of the Buena Vista Sports Academy, some of whom are now serving in leadership positions in the ministry. Pray that they would have the perseverance, faith and moral authority needed to be leaders in their communities.
