Dark Horses: Overlooked Heroes - Week 02 Launch

WELCOME

Welcome to Week Two of the Dark Horses: Overlooked Heroes Reading Plan! This reading plan is designed to partner with Compassion Christian Church’s sermon series of the same name, which you can find information about right here.

A unique, and perhaps unexpected theme of the historical accounts compiled in the Bible is what appears to be God’s particular affinity for the underdog. Throughout Scripture we see God choose unlikely people to become His primary tool to impact the outcomes of seismic events in Israel’s history, and in turn the history of our world. Social outcasts, economically disadvantaged, struggling with disability or illness, lacking influence or even agency to make change in their own lives, much less in the lives of their community or nation. Based on the examples given to us in Scripture, it’s clear that skill, influence and power are in no way prerequisites to being used by God in His redemptive, Kingdom work in our world. In fact, He seems to prefer the opposite to ensure that His glory is revealed in the impossible being made possible when He moves. This Reading Plan will focus around just a few of these incredible stories.

Before We Start
One important aspect of understanding the Bible’s teachings through storytelling is to be reminded that these are real stories about real people, who are human and flawed just like us.  This video gives a helpful overview of how we should approach characters in Scripture.
