The Resistance - Day 24

Day 24: Thursday, March 02
Read Luke 22:31-34 and 22:54-62

Highlight
Peter’s arrogant confidence only deepened his shame.  Peter did not believe that anything could prevent him from being faithful to Jesus.  But Jesus knew Peter’s capacity for failure and sin.  He knew what it was going to feel like to look over at Peter in the midst of being mocked and beaten to see him refuse to even acknowledge knowing Jesus.  He knew all of those things about Peter, just as he knows all of those things about us.  All of us know what it’s like to weep bitter tears after being ashamed of ourselves.  Take comfort from the fact that Jesus, knowing all of those things about Peter, still prayed for him.  He mediates for us as well.  Even when our betrayal hurts him, he still thinks of us and our hearts.  That is the great mercy and grace of Jesus!

Reflection
Every passage in the Bible, including the one you just read, is “...inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”  Let the passage challenge you as you reflect on it, but always cling to the full context of Scripture, which tells us that “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”  Praise God!
