The Resistance - Day 15

Day 15: Friday, February 17
Read Luke 22:39-46

Highlight
Sometimes there is nothing left to do but to lay at the feet of our heavenly Father all that threatens to steal our hope and peace…and ask for mercy. It would be hard to overestimate the pressure Jesus is under at this moment. He has already endured pain, loss, ostracism and attack. And he knows the suffering set before him. It would be understandable to succumb to hopelessness and despair. Jesus does not hide his anguish, but rather he lays it bare before His Father and begs for help. Notice Jesus is not alone, but he asks his trusted friends to pray with him. He resists isolation and invites others to shoulder his burden with him. Though he knows that he must face the suffering ahead, he resists hopelessness and surrenders his own will to the will of his Father, trusting in his steadfast love for him.

Reflection
Every passage in the Bible, including the one you just read, is “...inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”  Let the passage challenge you as you reflect on it, but always cling to the full context of Scripture, which tells us that “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”  Praise God!
