The Resistance - Day 14

Day 14: Thursday, February 16
Read John 11:32-36

Highlight
Sometimes burnout comes when we face grief. In this passage we see Jesus processing the death of a dear friend. Jesus has been working hard, facing constant opposition and struggling to see success in his ministry. In the middle of all this he gets word that his dear friend has died. Earlier we learn that Lazarus and his family live in a village where people had tried to stone Jesus, but despite the danger he goes to be with Lazarus’ family. Jesus knows from the beginning not only that Lazarus has died, but that he will be raised from the dead. And yet, he weeps. He gives space for grief and to mourn with those he loves. He shows us how to resist the fear of vulnerability. How to grieve, but not without hope.

Reflection
Every passage in the Bible, including the one you just read, is “...inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”  Let the passage challenge you as you reflect on it, but always cling to the full context of Scripture, which tells us that “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”  Praise God!
