The Resistance - Day 13

Day 13: Wednesday, February 15
Read Mark 3:1-10

Highlight
Sometimes burnout is the result of external hostility. Today we see the opposition Jesus is up against even among his own people when he is doing good works. The religious leaders of the day are looking for every opportunity to disrupt and refute Jesus’ work. The passage says that Jesus was deeply distressed, even angered by their constant dissent. In the midst of this tension Jesus withdraws with his closest friends to a peaceful place. He acknowledges his own need for rest and models this for his disciples. When the world around him is threatening to steal his peace, Jesus resists by withdrawing to be with the Father who offers us rest and restores our strength so we have what we need to go back to the battle.

Reflection
Every passage in the Bible, including the one you just read, is “...inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”  Let the passage challenge you as you reflect on it, but always cling to the full context of Scripture, which tells us that “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”  Praise God!

  • What truth does this passage communicate about God?  About us?  About our world?
