The Resistance - Day 07

Day 07: Monday, February 07
Read Psalm 31

Highlight
This is another Psalm that Jesus quotes on the cross.  In Luke 23:46, Jesus quotes Psalm 31:5. Pastor Tim Keller points out that Jesus often quoted Scripture during the most difficult times we see him face.  When he was tempted in the wilderness, he responded to every one of Satan’s assaults with passages from Deuteronomy.  When he was carrying his cross he quotes Hosea.  And then on the cross itself he quotes two Psalms.

Jesus drew strength and encouragement from the Word of God that he had memorized. As we seek strength in our times of struggle, memorizing Scripture can have a profound impact on our emotional and spiritual well-being.

Reflection
Every passage in the Bible, including the one you just read, is “...inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”  Let the passage challenge you as you reflect on it, but always cling to the full context of Scripture, which tells us that “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”  Praise God!

  • What truth does this passage communicate about God?  About us?  About our world?
  • Has God used this passage to highlight something that is wrong in your life?
  • What does this passage teach us to do?  What is one practical thing you can do to apply this to your life?
