Read Psalm 22
Highlight
Verse 1 of Psalm 22 may be familiar to some of us because we recognize it from Jesus’ words on the cross. In Matthew 27:46 Jesus quotes this Psalm while hanging on the cross. While there are a lot of implications that come from Jesus’ quoting of this passage, one connection is sure: Jesus understands our suffering.
Hebrews 4:15-16 encourages us by reminding us that “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Reflection
Every passage in the Bible, including the one you just read, is “...inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” Let the passage challenge you as you reflect on it, but always cling to the full context of Scripture, which tells us that “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” Praise God!
