LIVING THE RESURRECTION IS BEST EXPERIENCED IN COMMUNITY

The call to a resurrected life is a call to transformation. Nothing can be more transformed than going from death to life. What was not, now is! What was lost, now restored! What was grieved, now celebrated! Whether we have followed Jesus for a day or a lifetime, this is our testimony. Not just that our sin condemned us to death, but that in our sin we were already dead - without hope, purpose, peace or a future. And perhaps without even knowing this was our true state, because the world will tempt us to believe that we can replace Jesus with all kinds of things that will make us think we’re living ‘the good life’. It often isn’t until we come into contact with someone who is alive in Christ that we are able to see the difference.

This is the power of life in a transforming community! Our resurrection is both complete in Christ (who redeems) and ongoing through the power of the Holy Spirit (who sanctifies). We are resurrected people living in a fallen world. As Colossians 3:5 encourages we must continue to ‘put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within’ us. Jesus modeled that the Kingdom life was best lived in community. He surrounded Himself with a family of faith that were pursuing the Kingdom of GOD together by growing together and serving those around them. How much more do we need this kind of encouragement, accountability and companionship in our faith journey if we are to become like Him?

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

  • What ‘earthly thing’ needs to be put to death in your life today?
  • Who could you ask for accountability in this area?
  • As someone made holy (new) by Christ and loved by GOD, what quality of His do you need to ‘clothe’ yourself with today?
  • Who do you know that’s following Jesus and seems to naturally express this quality that you could learn from?
  • Think of a time when you served someone else sacrificially - in what ways did you experience Christ in that encounter?
  • Think of a time when someone served you sacrificially - in what ways did you experience Christ in that encounter?
