Breastplate of Righteousness
Focus of the Week:
God has given us a full set of armor to protect ourselves against sin and Satan. Yet many of us accepted the gift of salvation and stopped arming ourselves. How do we arm ourselves in righteousness?

Getting Ready For The Week
This week we will have a guiding post with scriptures for each day focused on the overall topic for the week. Reflection questions are set for the entire week to provide time to dive deeper into scripture each day.

Getting Started:
Last week we discussed arming ourselves both protectively and offensively - specifically how the belt of Truth ties all the pieces of armor together. Extending from this core, we move to another protective piece that is God's righteousness. We all generally have an idea of what is right and wrong. There's a sense of justice with points of morality built in. So how is it that God's righteousness protects us?
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and are baptized, we are the recipient of Gods free gift of salvation. Included in that is God's Righteousness, or rather being justified in the eyes of God. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross exchanges His perfection for our sinful imperfection. (2 Corinthians 5:21) This action gives us a right standing in the eyes of God. We become completely unified in the identity of Christ's righteousness.
Yet, it does not stop there. If it did, we'd be perfected at the time of salvation and never sin again. The Holy Spirit continues to work in our lives so that we may be continually transformed to be more like Christ and less like the world. We must choose to do this (Romans 6:13-14). Choose to live in such a way that brings glory and honor to God. Choose to live in a way that proclaims the Gospel through our actions as much as our words. Choose to live according to the righteousness freely given to us rather than the sinful nature we were born with.
As we continue to arm ourselves, we have seen how we protect ourselves with the helmet of salvation, the belt of truth, and now the breastplate of righteousness. Protecting our head, mind and eyes; tying all armor pieces together; and protecting our heart. Each piece is important, each one complementing the other ensuring there is no gap. How amazing and beautiful to know our God cares so deeply that He would give His own armor as protection for His children!

Ask God to show how you might become well armed by living righteously.
