Getting Started This Week | Prone To Wander Week 6

Getting Ready For The Week
This Week's Focus:
Idolatry doesn’t usually begin with rejection, it begins with distraction. In Exodus 32–33, God’s people grow impatient while waiting on Him and turn to something they can control.
The golden calf wasn’t just a false god; it was a substitute for trust. This story reminds us that even after rescue, our hearts can drift. But God, in His grace, continues to pursue His people and call them back to His presence.

Getting Started This Week
By the time we reach Exodus 32, the Israelites are free, but they’re not fully transformed.
They’ve seen God move. They’ve walked through the Red Sea. They’ve experienced His provision.
But now… they’re waiting
And waiting begins to wear on them.
Moses is on the mountain longer than expected, and instead of trusting God’s timing, the people take matters into their own hands. They build something they can see. Something they can control. Something that feels immediate.
The golden calf isn’t just about rebellion, it’s about misplaced trust.
And if we’re honest, we’ve been there too.
We may not build idols out of gold, but we often look to other things to give us what only God can provide:
Security. Comfort. Control. Approval.
This week, we’ll see that idolatry isn’t just an Old Testament issue, it’s a heart issue.
But we’ll also see something even more powerful:
God doesn’t walk away from His people.
Even in their failure, He is still present. Still patient. Still calling them back.
Because the goal was never just freedom from Egypt, it was life with God.

Reflection Helps Us Pause, Listen, And Let God Speak To Our Hearts.
- Where am I tempted to take control instead of trusting God?
- What do I turn to when God feels distant or slow?
- How is God inviting me back to His presence this week?

Ready To Begin?
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
You don’t have to rush. Growth takes time.
You don’t have to rush. Growth takes time.
Come Back Tomorrow
Tomorrow we’ll see how waiting can lead to drifting — and how easily we begin to replace trust in God with something we can control.
This week may bring conviction, honesty, and reflection. Don’t avoid that. God isn’t exposing your heart to push you away, He’s inviting you back.
He is patient. He is present. And He is still at work in you.
Just take the next step.
