Prone To Wander | Thursday

Thursday | April 30

This Week's Focus: God has made a way for us to come near, not through our effort, but through His provision, fulfilled in the Resurrection of Jesus.

Scripture

Scripture Helps Us Hear God And Live His Truth.
15“Then, with great skill and care, make a chestpiece to be worn for seeking a decision from God. Make it to match the ephod, using finely woven linen embroidered with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread… (vs.15)

Exodus 28:15–30 NLT

Close To The Heart

God doesn’t just give instructions, He gives meaning through detail.

The chest piece described in this passage is not simple or symbolic in a casual sense. It is crafted “with great skill and care,” layered with gold, rich colors, and twelve distinct stones. Each stone is engraved with a name, one for every tribe of Israel.

No tribe missing. No name overlooked.

And these names aren’t stored away somewhere distant. They are placed deliberately over the priest’s heart.

This is how Aaron enters the presence of God: carrying people with him.

But the passage goes even further. Not only does he carry their names, he also carries the means of seeking God’s will, the Urim and Thummim, held in that same place over his heart. Representation and guidance are held together.

The people are not just remembered; they are brought into decision, into direction, into relationship with God’s voice.

And Scripture repeats the phrase again and again: continually.

Not occasionally when things are going well. Not only when the people are obedient.

Continually.

This rhythm reveals something steady about God’s character. His desire is not to keep His people at a distance, waiting for them to figure things out on their own. He makes a way for them to be brought near, known, and guided.

For us, this speaks directly into the tension we often carry.

Because it’s easy to believe we are forgotten in the details of our lives. Easy to assume that God is only concerned with the big picture, while our names, our decisions, and our struggles feel small by comparison.

But this passage pushes against that assumption.

Every name mattered enough to be engraved.
Every tribe mattered enough to be carried.
Every decision mattered enough to be brought before the Lord.

And all of it rested over the heart.

What was once carried by a priest in symbol is now fulfilled in something greater. Through Jesus, we are not just represented, we are invited near. Not occasionally, but continually.

So when you feel prone to wander…

When your attention drifts or your faith feels distant, remember this image:
You are not on the outside trying to get God’s attention.
You are already known.
Already named.
Already held close to the heart.

And the God who carries you is not passive, He is actively guiding, speaking, and drawing you near, even now.
