Prone To Wander | Friday

Friday | April 24

This Week's Focus: This week, we reflect on a powerful shift in the story of Exodus. God doesn’t just rescue His people, He chooses to dwell with them.

Scripture

Scripture Helps Us Hear God And Live His Truth.
31“Make a lampstand of pure, hammered gold. Make the entire lampstand and its decorations of one piece - the base, center stem, lamp cups, buds, and petals…(vs. 31)

Exodus 25:31–40 NLT

Light That Stays

In Exodus 25:31–40, God gives detailed instructions for the lampstand that would bring light into the tabernacle. It wasn’t placed near a window or natural light source, because there wasn’t one. Without it, the space would remain dark.

Every detail matters. The design is intentional, crafted from pure gold, shaped carefully, and set in a specific place. This wasn’t just about function, it reflects the value of God’s presence among His people.

And the light was never meant to go out.

It had to be tended. Watched. Maintained.

That’s important, because it shows us something about how we experience God’s presence.

God is the source of the light, but His people were responsible for keeping it burning. Not creating it, but staying attentive to it.

In the wilderness, where direction was often unclear, this light wasn’t just symbolic, it was necessary. It allowed the priests to see, to move, to serve. It made everything else possible.

And the same is true for us.

God’s presence brings clarity, but not always all at once. He doesn’t usually light the entire path ahead, He gives light for where we are right now. The next step. The next moment of trust.

We often want full answers. A clear plan. A complete picture.

But God invites us into something different.
A daily attentiveness.
A steady trust.
A willingness to stay close, even when we don’t see everything.

Because the journey isn’t about controlling the outcome, it’s about learning to walk with Him in the light He provides.

And as we stay near, as we keep showing up, as we remain attentive, we begin to see more clearly, one step at a time.

Reflection

Reflection Helps Us Pause, Listen, And Let God Speak To Our Hearts.
  • What stands out to about the care and detail God gives to the lamp stand?
  • Where in my life do I need clarity right now?
  • Am I asking God for the whole picture, or trusting Him with the next step?
  • What helps me stay attentive to God’s presence in my daily life?

Journaling Prompts

This Is A Safe Place To Be Honest With God
  • Write about a situation where you wish you had more clarity.
  • What would it look like to trust God with just the next step in that area?
  • What rhythms help you stay spiritually attentive (Scripture, prayer, quiet time, etc.)?

Weekly Memory Verse

Read It Once A Day. Let It Shape How You Think And Pray This Week.
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

John 1:14 (NLT)

Prayer

Through Prayer, We Talk To God And Listen For His Guidance.
God, thank You for being my light. When things feel unclear, help me trust You with what I can see today. Teach me to stay close to You and to remain attentive to Your presence. I don’t need the whole picture, I just need to walk with You. Amen.

Come Back Tomorrow

Today, when you feel uncertain, pause and remind yourself:
God has given me light for this step, and He will guide me through the next.
