This Week's Focus: When life feels uncertain or stuck, we often want answers, clarity, or a way out. Exodus 3, God meets Moses in the wilderness and reveals His name, "I AM."
Before God Explains What He Will Do, He Reveals Who He Is.

Scripture

Scripture helps us hear God and live His truth.
But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?”
God replied to Moses, “I am who i am. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.”

Exodus 3:13-14 NLT

The Name That Carries Presence

When Moses stands before the burning bush, he asks God for a name that will make his mission believable. He wants something he can take back to the people, something solid that will reassure them he’s not speaking on his own.

God’s answer isn’t what Moses expects. He doesn’t hand Moses a detailed plan, a timeline, or a strategy for what will happen next. Instead, He gives Moses Himself: “I AM.”

That name points less to what God does and more to who He is. It speaks of presence rather than predictability. Before promising that anything will succeed, God promises that He will be there. For Moses, that presence would have to be enough.

There’s something deeply reassuring about that. We often look for clarity first. We want to know how things will work out, what the next step should be, or when circumstances will finally change. But the story in Exodus gently shifts our focus.

The most important reality isn’t having every answer, it’s knowing the One who walks with us.

When life feels uncertain or overwhelming, remembering who God is becomes our foundation.

He is faithful.
He is present.
He is loving.

Moses’ story reminds us that God meets us where we are, and then He equips us for what lies ahead. Sometimes His presence is the very thing that makes the unknown possible to face.

Reflection

Reflection helps us pause, listen, and let God speak to our hearts.
  • Where do I want answers more than trust?
  • How does God’s name challenge my expectations of faith?

Journaling Prompts

This Is a Safe Place to Be Honest With God
  • When life feels uncertain, what do you rely on most for stability or control?
  • How has that shaped your relationship with God?

Worship

Worship gently draws our hearts closer to God, deepening our daily time of prayer and reflection.
It reminds us that the unchanging God who revealed Himself long ago is still present, faithful, and at work in our lives today.

This song points us to the truth that God is self-existent, unchanging, and fully present, revealing Himself as the One who simply is.

Memory Verse

Read it once a day. Let it shape how you think and pray this week.

Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:35 NLT

Prayer

Through prayer, we talk to God and listen for His guidance.
God, teach me to trust who You are more than what I want You to do. Help me rest in Your presence. Amen.

Come Back Tomorrow

Tomorrow we’ll see how Jesus applies this same “I AM” to our everyday needs, showing us that God’s presence is deeply practical.
