This Week's Focus: Knowing who God is and how He meets us personally

Scripture

Scripture helps us hear God and live His truth.
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
John 8:12 NLT

Jesus Shows Us the Great I AM

When Jesus used the words “I AM,” He was pointing back to the God who met Moses at the burning bush. The God who declared “I AM WHO I AM” in Exodus was now standing in front of the people speaking, walking, and inviting them to follow.

Jesus didn’t just talk about God. He showed us who God is.

In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” With these words, Jesus reveals that the same God who delivered His people from Egypt is the One bringing light and life to the world.

Through Jesus, we see a God who is present, compassionate, and near. The I AM is no longer revealed through fire and mystery alone, He comes close. He steps into our brokenness, shines light into dark places, and leads us forward.

The same God who spoke to Moses still walks with us today. As we journey through the Exodus story, we’re reminded that God has always been about rescue, freedom, and relationship. In Jesus, we see the great I AM fully revealed.

Reflection

Reflection helps us pause, listen, and let God speak to our hearts.
  • What does it mean to you that Jesus is the same “I AM” revealed in Exodus?
  • Where do you need Jesus to bring light into your life right now?

Journaling Prompts

This Is a Safe Place to Be Honest With God
  • Write about an area of your life where you’ve been walking in uncertainty. What might it look like to invite Jesus’ light into that space?
  • How does knowing that God is present and near change the way you approach your faith today?

Worship

Worship gently draws our hearts closer to God, deepening our daily time of prayer and reflection.
A quiet reminder of God’s nearness and faithfulness, perfect for slowing down and resting in who God is.

A gentle, honest song that echoes the heart of Exodus and John 8—God present with His people, leading them forward.

Memory Verse

Read it once a day. Let it shape how you think and pray this week.

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.”
Exodus 3:14 NLT

Prayer

Through prayer, we talk to God and listen for His guidance.
Jesus, thank You for being the light of the world. Help us trust You, follow You, and walk in the light You provide each day. Amen.

This Week's Reminder

The same God who spoke to Moses is walking with you today. Trust the great I AM to bring light, presence, and hope into every moment.
