This Week's Focus: Knowing who God is and how He meets us personally

Scripture

Scripture helps us hear God and live His truth.
God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.”
Exodus 3:14 NLT

God Reveals Who He Is

Names tell us something important. They help us understand who someone is and how we relate to them. In Exodus 3, Moses asks God a question many of us would ask too: “Who should I say sent me?” God’s response is powerful in its simplicity:

“I AM WHO I AM.”

Say this to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:14) NLT

God doesn’t just give Moses a name, He reveals His nature.

God Is Present

When God says, “I AM,” He’s letting Moses know that He is not distant or disconnected. He is present. God met Moses right where he was, in the wilderness, in uncertainty, with plenty of doubts. In the same way, God meets us right where we are today.

Whether you’re new to faith, returning after a long time, or have been walking with Jesus for years, God is not waiting for you to have it all together. He is with you now.

God Is Constant

“I AM” also reminds us that God does not change. Our circumstances shift. Our emotions rise and fall. Our faith can feel strong one day and shaky the next. But God remains the same.

The God who heard the cries of His people in Egypt is the same God who hears our prayers today. He is faithful in every season.

God Is Enough

When God reveals His name, He’s also saying, I am sufficient. Moses didn’t need to have all the answers or all the confidence. He needed to trust the One who was sending him.

When we feel unsure, God is steady.

When we feel weak, God is strong.

When we feel overwhelmed, God is enough.

We don’t move forward because we are capable, we move forward because God is present.

Living in the Confidence of “I AM”

God revealed His name so His people could trust Him. The same “I AM” who spoke from the burning bush is still at work today. He is near, He is faithful, and He is with us every step of the way.

Wherever you are on your faith journey, you can hold onto this truth:

You are NOT alone. The great “I AM” is with you.

Reflection

Reflection helps us pause, listen, and let God speak to our hearts.
  • When you hear God describe Himself as “I AM,” what does that tell you about who God is in your life right now?
  • In what area of your life do you most need to trust that God is present and enough?

Journaling Prompts

This Is a Safe Place to Be Honest With God
  • Finish this sentence honestly before God: “Right now, I need God to be ______ for me.
  • Write about a time when God met you in a season of uncertainty. How does remembering that shape your trust in Him today?

Worship

Worship gently draws our hearts closer to God, deepening our daily time of prayer and reflection.
A powerful reminder of God’s unchanging nature and His presence with His people.

A song that beautifully connects the God of Exodus with the God who is still at work today.

Memory Verse

Read it once a day. Let it shape how you think and pray this week.

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.”
Exodus 3:14 NLT

Prayer

Through prayer, we talk to God and listen for His guidance.
God, thank You for revealing who You are. Help me trust You more each day. Remind me that You are present, unchanging, and enough for whatever I am facing. I am placing my confidence in You. Amen.

Come Back Tomorrow

We’ll connect God’s name to Jesus’ words in the New Testament.
