Reading For Wednesday | John 3:1-21

The hymn text refers to Jesus as the Giver—the risen One with “healing in his wings,” the One who gives us a second birth and was sent to raise us up from the earth. As John 3 reminds us, Jesus was sent to bring spiritual regeneration, salvation, and new life. The hymn text also points us to the fulfillment of Old Testament promises, especially those connected to the prophet Isaiah.

From Verse Three:

“…risen with healing in his wings.
Mild he lays his glory by,
born that man no more may die,
borne to raise us from the earth,
born to give us second birth.”

Journaling Questions

Find a spot free from distractions, sit before the Lord in quiet for 2-3 minutes, ask HIM what HE might want to say to you as you reflect and open your heart to HIS Word.

  • Where do you need to experience the “healing wings” of the risen Jesus?
  • Where might you need to take up your cross and die daily? (Luke 9:23)
  • In what ways do you need Jesus to “raise you” from the earth? Where do you most need “resurrection”?
  • What has GOD invited you to do this week that would be healing for someone within your circle of friends? How might you encourage someone else to take a step toward a deeper life with GOD?
  • Write a prayer asking GOD to help you learn to live for the sake of others as you seek to serve them, listen to them, care for their needs.
