Reading For Monday | Luke 2:8-14

“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” is one of the richest theological hymns of Christmas. Wesley’s text weaves together several important truths such as “God and sinners reconciled” and “peace on earth and mercy mild” (Luke 2:14). The proclamation by the angels points to Christ bringing peace between God and humanity.

Healing is now available for all that sin has broken because God has taken on human flesh in order to redeem humanity. The incarnation and reconciliation through redemption are foundational truths of the Christian faith.

Verse One —
Hark! the herald angels sing,
”Glory to the newborn king:
peace on earth, and mercy mild,
GOD and sinners reconciled!”
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
join the triumph of the skies;
with th’angelic hosts proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Hark! the herald angels sing
”Glory to the newborn King.”

Journaling Questions

Find a spot free from distractions, sit before the Lord in quiet for 2-3 minutes, ask HIM what HE might want to say to you as you reflect and open your heart to HIS Word.

  • What places in your heart need to be brought back together, to be reconciled? What is broken? What needs the healing power of Jesus?
  • Is there a relationship that needs to be reconciled? If you can, ask GOD to show you what steps you might take toward reconciliation with someone.
  • Is there a place in your life where the situation seems irredeemable? Tell GOD you want to move toward trusting HIM. Ask HIM to give you everything you need to make the shift.
  • Where might you offer peace and “mercy mild” for the sake of living out the gospel of Jesus Christ?
