Reading For Wednesday | Luke 2:13-14 | Philippians 2:10-11

The second half of the verse of “O Holy Night” soars powerfully and moves toward its musical peak as the text invites us to worship—not with a careful or calculated approach, but with total abandon of our physical bodies. We are encouraged to fall down before King Jesus, bowing low on our knees in surrender (see Philippians 2:5–11).

Kneeling, an outward sign of an inward posture, represents humility, awe, and reverence. We are invited to worship the ONE who is worthy as we confess, HE IS LORD!

From verse one:

Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night, divine
O night, when Christ was born

Reflection Questions

As you enter a time of reflection and prayer, choose a couple of these prompts to guide your responses.

  • What would it look like for my heart posture to be bowed down in worship?
  • What keeps me from engaging in such an act of worship with my body—is it concern for what someone might think if they saw me? (Consider Jesus’ suggestion in the Sermon on the Mount: “go to your room and close the door.”)
  • Where do I resist surrender?
  • As you reflect on the passage from Philippians 2, what stands out to you?
  • When was the last time you intentionally bowed down and acknowledged that Jesus Christ is your Lord—the ONE who has saved you, is saving you, and will save you for all eternity?
  • Write a journal entry proclaiming this, acknowledging again your dependence on Jesus to save you and to lead you.
  • Write a prayer asking GOD to help you move deeper into worship and surrender to HIM.

Prayer Prompt

Invite God to meet you in a fresh way as you worship, asking Him to free you from fear, self-consciousness, or distraction so you can bow before Him in spirit and in truth.

  • Pray Philippians 2:5–11 back to God, asking Him to form in you the same mind and humility that was in Christ Jesus.
