Reading For Tuesday | Romans 3:23 | Isaiah 9:2 | Isaiah 53:6

Why do we need a Savior? These passages help us remember that we were lost—without light in our hearts, a people wandering in darkness. We were without hope or peace. Without Christ, we were living under the grip of sin and the flesh.

Romans 3:23 — All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Isaiah 9:2 — The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.
Isaiah 53:6 — All we, like sheep, have gone astray.

Verse one of “O Holy Night” spells it out—the world was laid low in sin, pining and longing for something to satisfy our souls. Jesus stepped into history, and our hearts resonated with His invitation: the gift of new life—eternal life. The promise of redemption, forgiveness, and freedom when we commit our lives to Him as our Lord and Shepherd.

From verse one:

“Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
’Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth.”

Journaling Questions

Today’s invitation is to ENTER a time of prayer and reflection, preferably with a journal for making some notes as you consider your responses to the following questions:

  1. In what ways do you personally resonate with this longing for redemption?
  2. Where in your life do you sense Christ inviting you to experience a “new and glorious morn”?
  3. Can you remember when your SOUL realized the need for redemption, forgiveness, and the LOVE of Christ to save and heal your brokenness?
  4. Who comes to mind as one who needs this kind of connection with Jesus?  Why not write a prayer, asking GOD to help you find the right posture and the right words to share this invitation with them?

Prayer Prompt

  • Take a moment to thank Jesus for stepping into your darkness and offering you His light.

  • Confess the ways you have wandered or tried to satisfy your soul apart from Him.

  • Ask the Lord to deepen your gratitude for His sacrifice and to help you live fully in the freedom, forgiveness, and new life He offers as your Savior and Shepherd.
