Reading For Wednesday | Matthew 5
It would be easy to look at spiritual practices as a checklist of things to do for God. Many of us have tried that approach and failed to meet our own expectations. The practices lose joy and meaning, and we can begin to feel like we're just going through the motions.
This is not God’s view or expectation. In fact, it’s quite the opposite—He’s given us these practices as a gift: an invitation to do life with Him. If we build our life around these invitations, they become the natural overflow of our walk with God. The framing represents rich communion with Him and others—Scripture, prayer, service, discipleship groups. Windows allow light in—reflection, meditation, and confession. Doors open outward—inviting others in through evangelism, hospitality, and outreach.
These practices allow us to stay on mission with Him, the natural outcome of a life built on Christ. Matthew 5:14–16 reminds us: “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others.” Sadie’s story reminds us how one person’s faith can impact their family and community.

• What daily practices frame your spiritual life?
• What are your “windows” for God’s light—reflection, journaling, solitude?
• How are your doors open to invite others to experience Jesus?

Prayer Prompt
Ask God to help you clearly see the invitations He is giving you to live life with Him instead of striving to do things for Him.
