Reading For Friday | LUKE 7:11-15
Those with a RELATIONAL temperament experience God most powerfully when they are in community with others. Serving out of a relational temperament may involve using gifts of hospitality to bring people together or embodying mercy, discernment and compassion in order to reconcile broken relationships. The list is long from the life and ministry of Jesus where he serves others intentionally out of a relational temperament. Jesus was highly interruptible, especially when vital relationships were at stake. Today, it is Jesus who interrupts as he encounters a mourning mother who has just lost her only son.
JOURNALING & REFLECTION
Read the passage for today s-l-o-w-l-y. Enter into the scene in your mind. Allow an image to form in your imagination. Place yourself in the scene perhaps as the grieving mother laying to rest your only son. What does each step feel like as you walk the funeral procession? What dreams will not be realized with the passing of your son? Then Jesus does the unthinkable; he touches the lifeless body of your son and speaks life into him. Jesus restores you to a relationship with your son when all hope is lost. How are you shaped by being served so relationally by Jesus?
- How is God inviting you to serve someone relationally today?
- What would it look like for you to become more interruptible for the sake of others?
- What hinders you from serving others relationally?
