Reading For Wednesday | JOHN 3:1-21

Intellectuals enjoy learning and live in a world of concepts. They are stimulated by engaging and challenging their minds. Jesus is described as ‘The Word’ in John 1. He clearly memorized Scripture, meditating on it and utilizing it often in his ministry. Today, we will explore how Jesus served Nicodemus employing an intellectual temperament in a late night deep discussion.

JOURNALING & REFLECTION

Read the passage for today s-l-o-w-l-y. Enter into the scene in your mind. Allow a picture to form in your imagination. Imagine yourself to be Nicodemus. What is going through your mind as you approach Jesus? Why did you choose to approach Jesus at night? What words or emotions come to mind when you imagine being served by Jesus’ intellectual temperament? What do you feel as you walk away from the exchange with Jesus?

  • How comfortable are you engaging in gospel-focused conversation with someone who has deep questions?
  • What emotions do you feel when people around you have questions about the Bible or faith or the gospel?
  • Do you experience any resistance or hesitation? If so, what concerns you most?
  • Do you experience excitement or invitation to engage? If so, where does that confidence come from?
