GETTING READY FOR THE WEEK

SUNDAY, JUNE 29

If you’re just jumping in with us, let’s recap the book and the prophet. Habakkuk served as a prophet for the people of Judah (the Southern Kingdom of Israel) from 612 BC to 588 BC. He correctly prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple caused by the Babylonians. Chaos was all around him, and it seemed that God was nowhere to be found. Habakkuk prays to God, seeking answers about His justice, mercy, and restoration. God responds, initiating a dialogue between the two, and we receive the book of Habakkuk.

In the fast-paced rhythm of our daily lives, it is easy to become consumed by the demands and distractions that vie for our attention. Yet, the Book of Habakkuk invites us into a sacred pause—a moment to step back and remember the profound truths of God's character and His work throughout history. This week's journey through Habakkuk 2:20-3:15 encourages us to embrace the discipline of pausing and remembering, allowing these ancient words to speak into our modern lives with fresh relevance and power.

As we delve into these passages, we are reminded of the importance of reverence and awe in our relationship with God. Habakkuk's call to silence before the Lord in His holy temple sets the tone for a week of reflection and contemplation. It is a call to recognize God's sovereignty and holiness, to remember His mighty deeds, and to trust in His perfect timing. Each day, we will explore different aspects of God's nature—His faithfulness, majesty, sovereignty, and deliverance—inviting us to pause and reflect on how these attributes have been evident in our own lives. Through journaling and prayer, we will seek to deepen our understanding of who God is and how He is at work in the world around us. This week is an opportunity to cultivate a heart of gratitude and trust, as we remember the ways God has been faithful in the past and anticipate His continued work in our lives. Let us embark on this journey with open hearts, ready to pause, remember, and be transformed by the truths of God's Word.
