GOD WANTS TO HEAR YOUR TOUGH QUESTIONS

THURSDAY, JUNE 19

After God responds to Habakkuk, Habakkuk still has questions, and God wants to hear them. Habakkuk’s second lament begins by praising God for His justice and omniscience, but then turns to questioning. If He is those things, how can evil still take place? Ultimately, Habakkuk returns to praising God and states that he (Habakkuk) will “watch and wait” for what the Lord has in store. God’s answer and plan still do not make sense to Habakkuk, but he chooses to have open and honest conversations with Him anyway. The way Habakkuk praises God even when things do not make sense, asks the tough questions, and obeys God’s command to watch and wait is an example of how we too can communicate with God. He wants us to ask tough questions. We do not have to have everything together or put on a brave face when things are hard, but we do need to trust the goodness of God even when we do not understand.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

  • Take time to think through and write out a list of at least 20 blessings in your life right now. Thank God for His ever-present goodness.
  • Is there a tough question that you’ve been hesitant to ask God? Write them down and consider listening for His answer. He already knows your heart is troubled by these questions, He wants to hear them from you.
    • If needed, after asking your questions of the Lord, reach out to a mentor, pastor or counselor to help you process and pray through these questions together.
