PERFECT JUSTICE

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18

After God tells Habakkuk to watch and wait, He goes on to tell all about the cruelty and unjust things that Babylon has been doing and will continue to do. While Habakkuk thought God was distant and unaware of what was going on, God shows otherwise by revealing the heart and intent of the Babylonians. He’s not blind, deaf or absent to the suffering of His people. Yet at the end of it all, He proclaims His justice: “Then they sweep past like the wind and go on–guilty people, whose own strength is their god” (v 11). For all of the destruction that they will cause and bring about, in the end, they too will meet destruction because they are unrepentant of their sin. It is a haunting realization, but God knows far more than we know about all things. His timing may differ from our preference, but His justice will always be perfect.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS

  • Is there a situation in your life where it seems like God has been distant? Talk to Him about how you’re experiencing what seems like His absence.
  • Ask God to help you think about your thinking and acknowledge your feelings about your circumstances. Has your perspective about your situation been helpful or hurtful?
  • Is there some action God is inviting you to take in response?
