GETTING READY FOR THE WEEK

SUNDAY, JUNE 15
READING: HABAKKUK 1:1 - 2:1
Habakkuk was a prophet for the people of Judah (Southern Kingdom of Israel), between 612 BC to 588 BC. He was witness to the disaster and destruction the Babylonians were creating around him. Especially when they conquered the Assyrian nation, which had taken over the Northern Kingdom of Israel years before. Chaos was all around him, and it seemed God was not nowhere to be found. Habakkuk prays to God, asking for answers on His justice, mercy, and restoration. God answers, and the dialogue between the two begins, and we receive the book of Habakkuk.
This week, our focus will be on Habakkuk’s first laments on the difficult situation of the Israelites and how God responds. We will also spend time reflecting on where we feel or see difficulties in the world around us and our own lives. Habakkuk has much to teach us about how to process and engage the suffering of our world, and God’s answer to Habakkuk still has hope and insight for us today.
