ONE BODY, MANY PARTS

TUESDAY, MAY 13
READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:12-27
YOU BELONG HERE
The Apostle Paul uses a metaphor we can all understand: a body. One body, made up of many different parts—each with its own function, its own purpose, and its own value. It’s a simple image, but it carries huge implications for how we see ourselves and each other in the Church. You’re not just a spectator in the stands of faith. You’re a member of the Body of Christ, created with intention and gifted to make a difference. You belong, and your presence matters.
But this isn’t just about feeling included—it’s about taking ownership. The lie of individualism says, “I’m fine on my own,” or “They don’t need me.” But Paul says the opposite: we are interdependent. One part of the body can’t say to another, “I don’t need you.” If you’ve ever felt like your presence didn’t matter, or like someone else’s absence didn’t affect the Church, this passage is here to correct that. We thrive when we function together. When one part suffers, we all do. When one part celebrates, we all share the joy. That’s the kind of community Jesus envisions.
And here’s the beautiful truth—God didn’t just save you from something. He saved you for something. Your story, your strengths, your perspective—they’re part of what makes the Church whole. But the same goes for everyone else. So part of being the Body is learning to make room for others. To honor the people who don’t think like you or look like you. To recognize that diversity in the Body isn’t a threat—it’s a gift. When we each bring what we have, the whole Church is strengthened.

JOURNALING QUESTIONS | PRAYER PROMPTS: EMBRACING YOUR PART
- Where do you feel most connected in the Body of Christ right now?
- Are there ways you’ve been withholding your gifts, presence, or voice from your church community?
Take a few minutes to name one gift God has given you—maybe encouragement, hospitality, wisdom, creativity, or compassion. Then find one small way to use that gift today for someone else’s good. Text someone, write a note, lend a hand, speak life. Show up like it matters—because it does.
