“Every woman was once a little girl. And every little girl holds in her heart her most precious dreams. She longs to be swept up into a romance, to play an irreplaceable role in a great adventure, to be the beauty of the story. Those desires are far more than child’s play. They are the secret to the feminine heart.
“And yet—how many women do you know who ever find that life? As the years pass by, the heart of a woman gets pushed aside, wounded, buried. She finds no romance except in novels, no adventure except on television, and she doubts very much that she will ever be the beauty in any tale. Most women think they have to settle for a life of efficiency and duty, chores and errands, striving to be the women they “ought” to be but often feeling they have failed.
“Sadly, too many messages for Christian women add to the pressure. “Do these ten things, and you will be a godly woman.” The effect has not been good on the feminine soul. But, her heart is still there. Sometimes when she watches a movie, sometimes in the wee hours of the night, her heart begins to speak again. A thirst rises within her to find the life she was meant to live—the life she dreamed of as a little girl.
“The message of Captivating is this: “Your heart matters more than anything else in all creation. The desires you had as a little girl and the longings you still feel as a woman—they are telling you of the life God created you to live. He offers to come now as the Hero of your story, to rescue your heart and release you to live as a fully alive and feminine woman. A woman who is truly captivating.”
John and Stasi Eldredge, authors of Captivating
“God has shown me that the desires of my heart are from Him and therefore something to embrace and not be ashamed of or angry about when they aren’t met.”
“I believe I see myself in a different light now, one as more of God’s beautiful creature. One, who has beauty particular to me to share with the world. I feel ‘followed and wooed’ by Jesus more each day. It makes me feel particularly amazing!”
“I always knew that God loved me, but, sometimes it doesn’t feel like it. Through this study God has shown me His love for me.”
“I have learned that God is deeply in love with me, and that I am beautiful and captivating!! I also learned that I hold a special place in God’s Heart! It made me realize that I need to be aware in my life and in the life of my family when we are being attacked by the enemy and what to do about it.”
“Sometimes it feels like if your wounds are healed that they shouldn’t bring forth any more emotion…NOT TRUE! I did the “ugly cry” in small group. So precious being surrounded by such wonderful women. Thank you again for giving each of us this gift. If more women had this opportunity and embraced what it means to be captivated by the Savior, we would rock this world.”
“God has shown and given me a new perspective about life, lives of others, and about forgiveness. God has shown me that it is not good to hold onto anger and that it will eat you alive. God has shown me that we all have wounds and how we choose to deal with them is up to us.”
“God has shown me how very much He loves me. I understand now how easy it is to just speak to Him, get to know Him, and begin to really trust Him with my life. I am working harder to create a time for God and me. I am also focusing more on counting my blessings instead of what is wrong with things in my life. I know that God is in control.”
“Satan has been coming after me, and now I know how to defend myself. All this time I thought the way I was feeling was because I was damaged beyond repair. Now I see it wasn’t me. It was Satan attacking me. Now, I’m ready to fight for myself! I feel like I have taken myself back and my new found confidence as a Daughter of the King has had a very positive impact on my marriage and other relationships.”
“I really am beautiful! God wants the best for me in all areas of my life.”
“It was so helpful to bond with women from all walks of life and to realize they face the same challenges and attacks as I do.”
“This class enabled me to open up my heart and understand many things about myself and what I needed to do to make some things right in my world and be able to release and let go of the anger and other emotions that I had carried for so long. I will continue this journey that will take a lifetime, but at this time, I already feel much better and am starting to get a little bit of that peace we all are longing for.”
Isaiah 61: 1-3
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion-
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of His splendor.
